Workshops and Classes
The Intro Seminar
The DADIU semester starts with a three-day seminar in late August at a location in the center of Denmark. Here the students get introduced to each other and to DADIU through board game workshops, inspirational lectures and other social activities.
The Joint Curriculum and Mini Game Production
The first four weeks of the program gives the students a theoretical and practical base for creating computer games. It covers the major aspects of game development and introduces the students to the roles and responsibilities for the competences.
The first two weeks focus on the fundamental aspects of game development and play sessions with various games. The classes take place in Aalborg and Copenhagen.
Then the work in the production spaces starts with a couple of days introduction to working in the Unity engine. There are four productions in Copenhagen and two in Aalborg.
Then we have the Mini Game Production where each team gets five days to create a computer games. Each team will be assisted by a professional from the games industry all five days of the week.
The goal is to give the students hands-on experience with the different phases and aspects of game development: concept, pre-production, production, testing and pitching.
The last week of the Joint Curriculum revisits the theory of the first two weeks, but now with the six student-created games from the Mini Game Project week as case studies.
The Competence Project
The four weeks of October gives the students the opportunity to dig deeper into a specific aspect of game development related to their own competence.
The Competence Project is planned as a number of individual courses/projects. In 2011 many of the students participated in collaborations with games companies about solving actual game development tasks.
The CG artists worked with Motion Capture, and the group of directors, game designers, and Art Directors participated in a class with concept and pitching exercises.
A small percentage will have to participate in activities at their own education in the last two weeks of October.
